The Korean judo team collected five medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics, the most in 24 years.
The judo team won 4-3 in overtime against Germany in the bronze medal match of the mixed team event held at the Champ de Mars Stadium in Paris, France on the 4th.
The mixed team event is a match in which three men (73kg, 90kg, and over 90kg) and three women (57kg, 70kg, and over 70kg) participate.
It was first introduced in the Tokyo Games three years ago, but this is the first time that Korea has won a medal in this event.
In Tokyo, they were eliminated in the first round and finished in 9th place.
Korea finished this competition with the mixed team event.
In the individual events, two silver medals Kim Min-jong in the men's 100kg+ class, Heo Mimi in the women's 57kg class and two bronze medals Lee Jun-hwan in the men's 81kg class, Kim Ha-yoon in the women's 78kg+ class were awarded.
With the addition of the bronze medal in the mixed team event, Korea finished this competition with five medals.
Although they failed to revive the gold streak that had been broken since the 2012 London Games, this was a competition that confirmed the bright future of Korean judo.
Korea won the most medals in this competition since the 2000 Sydney Games (2 silver, 3 bronze).
In the 2004 Athens Games and the 2008 Beijing Games, they each won a gold medal, but the total number of medals was three and four, respectively.
In the 2012 London Games, they won two gold medals and one bronze medal, and in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games and Tokyo Games, they won three silver and bronze medals each.
The fact that they have collected so many medals means that they have proven their potential in various events.
Silver medalists Kim Min-jong and Heo Mi-mi, bronze medalists Lee Jun-hwan and Kim Ha-yoon are all in their early to mid-20s, so they can easily look forward to four years.
Excluding Kim Min-jong, this was the first Olympics for the three of them.
